We aren't sure yet but we are 99% convinced that this photo was taken in front of The American Soda Fountain for the following reasons:
1. The angle makes it deceptive but the windows and parapet appear to match.
2. Alexander Trail & Sons were the proprietors of the Soda Fountain. Herbert William Traill was one of his sons.
3. Alexander Traill was listed in business directories as a Confectioner.
4. This photo is from the 1920s and HW Traill was listed in business directories from 1925 before he moved to 44 High Street. It makes sense that he would have started in partnership with his father before branching out on his own.
5. If the faint letters on the far right of the parapet say "ALES" that would fit in with the building previously being a hotel - the Union Hotel. (Photo courtesy of Ken Traill)
