The Commonwealth Bank purchased this site in 1964 for their future needs. At the rear of the building was a taxi depot. The old buildings on the site were demolished in 1968 and remained as an empty block until construction of the current branch premises began in 1971. The Bank's lease on 50A High Street expired in January 1972 and the new building was completed by early 1972. This photo was taken in 1986.
